A Fatal Flaw in the Clinical Trial Consenting Process

More than a majority of cancer patients do not understand that if they enter into a clinical trial they have no guarantee that they will receive the investigational treatment that they believe their doctor wants them to receive!  More transparent clinical trial consenting procedures need to be immediately instituted. 

One In Five Cancers Is A Rare Cancer

How rare are rare cancers?  According to a new report, published in CA: A Cancer Journal for Clinicians, a peer-reviewed journal of the American Cancer Society, in the United States, about one in five cancer diagnoses is a rare cancer.……

Research concluded that approximately 20% of people diagnosed with cancer in the United States are diagnosed with a rare cancer. They also found that rare cancers make up a larger proportion of cancers diagnosed in Hispanic (24%) and Asian/Pacific Islander (22%) patients compared with non-Hispanic blacks (20%) and non-Hispanic whites (19%)……

Rare cancers are diagnosed at later stages leading to increased morbidity and decreased survival.......
