Managing Late Stage Radiation Side Effects

There are several possible side effects that can result from receiving radiation treatment. The most common of these side effects include the development of scar tissue that makes it hard to urinate (pee), defecate (poop), and in some instances, link the activity of either peeing and pooping together; bladder or colon bleeding and diarrhea.

Dr. Snuffy Meyers made an excellent video on “grassroots” solutions to deal with and control these three very significant side effects. If you are experiencing any of these late time side effects, we urge that you view his video at:

The following is a brief summation up his recommendations:

  • Peeing and pooping difficulty and the linking of these two independent activities is the result of the development of scar tissue. He recommends using a drug called Trental and vitamin E supplements to reduce the scar tissue. His video discusses dosages.

  • He recommends that bladder and colon bleeding can be positively affected by taking the hormone Leukine for 30 days.

  • Diarrhea can be controlled by taking over the over the counter drug called Imodium. He also recommends eating Dannon Activia Yogurt with fiber as well as supplementing your diet with over the counter soluble fiber.

View his video; it is under 7 mins long.

Those of you who don’t know, Dr. Meyers, he is a Prostate Cancer Thriver himself as well as being a former treating prostate cancer physician and researcher. Dr. Meyers has retired and no longer sees patients, so don’t try and make an appointment with him, despite the contact information on the video.
